Husky

Champagne berkshire

About Husky

We adopted Husky  from our local pet store.  He was so little and cute, but very spooked at first with his new home and cagemates.  But within a few days, Husky had made two new friends in Nougat and Schnoz and had settled into his new home wonderfully.  He was such a confident little fuzzlet, so full of energy and playfulness.  He loved to nuzzle under my chin, bounce about madly when I hand wrestled him and chase Schnoz about.

Husky was so named because he had that whole fluffy snowy appearance thing going on.  His had many nicknames... Husks, Little Husks, HuskyFuzz, Fuzzsky and, being a small little rat, he soon became known as The Mouse or Mouseky.  He was so beautifully coloured... white with a pinkish-grey tone, with pink accessories (i.e. ears, nose, feet, etc), a lightning shaped white belly marking and brilliant red eyes.  He seemed to wear a smile on his furry face all the time.

He was so full of cheerfulness, our little Husks.  His favourite thing in the world was getting more attention than Schnoz, his nemesis.  So he'd be constantly leaping onto my lap for a cuddle during free range time.  Over and over and over again he'd appear on my lap to fake-surprised exclamations of "Oh look!  It's The Mouse!".  He lived to be cuddled... all soft
and warm and putty in my hands.  He was a wonderful licker.  His specialty trick was anti-gravity yogurt drop retrieval.  At treat time he'd hang upsidedown from the hammock by one foot, his hands clinging to the cage wire, nose madly poking through here and there while striving with ratty impatience.

Little Husks left us way too young.   He declined suddenly and quickly from lymphoma and left us in the week he would have turned 1 year old.  The Grotto looks empty without his cheerful bright whiskery face poking out of the top hammock.

Tales of Husky

A little about Husky

Husky is such a delightful fuzz!  After a very freaky start with us (he was a scared little pet shop rat), he's settled in to become the most cheerful and bravest ratlet of the three.

He's a pretty rat!  I don't like using such a girly word on my big boofy bucks, but he is just so sweet and delicate looking.  His colour is stunning... like a shimmering pearl with a slightly golden tinge.  And his eyes are like sparkling rubies set within a dainty white face haloed by long white whiskers.  His pink accessories (ears, nose, tail, feet) complement his fur so perfectly.  He always seems to have a happy smile on his face... an expression which beams his joy for life.

Husks is just so happy to be a rat.  During free range time he bounds about cheerfully with no apparent direction.  For him the fun is in the journey, not the destination.  He leaps and runs and jumps and zooms  about in all directions like a blurry furry flash.  And he loves to play on me... leaping onto my lap, climbing my clothes, snuffling my face, enjoying being played with.

He's a brave little rat!  Always the first to investigate something new.  The other night they were out playing in the livingroom when possums started fighting outside the window.  For those that have possums living  nearby, you'll know the ruckus that causes.  While Schnoz and Noogs ran for cover, Husks leapt up to the windowsill to watch the action!  I won't be surprised if Husks turns out to be the alpha rat of the three.
